Sherman Road Rage
From CRCycling
From Chardon, take Bass Lake Road south to Sherman Road, turn right and head West on Sherman until you get to Chagrin River Road.
The distance of the ride from Bass Lake Road to Chagrin River Road is about 12 miles. The condition of Sherman Road varies. In some stretches the pavement is new. In some sections, it's slightly weathered. There is rarely any traffic on the road, and when there is traffic the drivers are generally courteous, however, it crosses some busy secondary streets, like Auburn Road.
This ride features several short, sharp climbs. From east to west the climbs are:
- Just east of Auburn road, 80 feet less than 10%;
- Sherman and Fowlers Mill, 100+ feet, 10%+;
- Sand Hill (right after Fowlers Mill Hill) 100 feet, 10%;
- Heath Road (short and steep);
- Caves Road (gradual, stair step)
Then the terrain drops precipitously to the Chagrin River Valley. You can turn right around at the foot of Sherman Road hill out of the valley and ride back to Bass Lake.
