The goal of CRC is to help build the cycling culture here in the Chagrin River watershed. We live in a place with some of the best and most beautiful roads for training and racing in Northeast Ohio. We shouldn't have to drive to ride our bikes!

The Way of CRC

Everyone is busy with school, work, family. We amateur racers take our sport seriously and spend a lot of time, money, and energy on it. There's not much left over to spend organizing a cycling club or working on club events. CRC recognizes this and is organized to help members make the most of the time they have available for the sport rather than add another commitment to their busy lives.

The basic job of CRC is to provide support to its members for training and racing.

CRC supports training by organizing club rides. To be successful, a club ride needs to be regular as a clock. It needs to depart from a known location at a known time without fail. But, since it is often difficult for individual riders to assemble at a precise time or place, the ride will pause at link up points along the route.

CRC helps riders achieve their race goals by providing basic logistical support at races--the things riders need at the last minute, but often forget to bring or do not have, like team wheels for the wheel pit, a complete tool kit, pump, clean water bottles, spare cleats and shoes, spare tubes and tires.

A secondary task for CRC is to contribute to the racing community by organizing races on the East Side, and by promoting cycling as a sport among the community at large.

Plan for 2008

Since 2008 is our first season, our goals are limited.

Get Organized

The first official act of the club was to register with the USCF. The second official act was to promote the club through the web site, and by distributing applications through the Geauga YMCA and Mountain Road Cycles stores.

Budget and Sponsors

CRC has a budget of about $2000 for the season. The budget is funded from a one-time anonymous donation.

Mountain Road Cycles is the sole sponsor for the club for the season. MRC's sponsorship includes a discount at the shops, using the shops as a hub for rides, meetings and general information, and by promoting the club through its website and mailers.

Membership

CRC will aim to establish a core group of riders this season.

Establish Training Rides

The time change occurred on March 9, 2008. Group rides will start once the shoulder of the road is clear of snow and winter debris.

Events

CRC will attempt to host one event this season, either a late season criterium on a closed course, or a cyclocross race.

Five Year Plan

Some longer term goals of the team are:

  • Build a strong membership base;
  • Build a stable roster of sponsors;
  • Establish some annual marquee races on the local calendar;
  • Build the web site into a hub for information for Northeast Ohio cyclists.
