How to Post Information

From CRCycling

Jump to: navigation, search

CRC's web site is a wiki. That means you can add or edit articles.

CRC encourages you to add information to our site. Some articles are "protected" which means you need permission from the website administrators to edit the content. Send an email with the lines or paragraphs you want to add, and the site administrator will get back to you promptly.

Articles that aren't protected can be edited by anyone. Please refrain from posting offensive material. Note that your IP address is logged by our server, and the site is constantly monitored for changes.

If you want to post commercial material, please send an email first.

Why We Require an Account

Many wikis allow anonymous posting. That openness is admirable, but CRC wants to avoid cleaning up the spam attacks that go hand in hand with anonymous posts.

Editing An Existing Page

  • create an account, or login;
  • Navigate to the page;
  • Then click on the edit tab up at the top of the page.

Adding a New Page

  • create an account, or login;
  • Edit a page that you want to link from, e.g.: [[New Page]].
  • Save the page, and the link will appear highlighted in red.
  • Click on the link, then edit the page.

For more information on editing, consult the Mediawiki help. Here is a cheat sheet.

Adding Photos

Please feel free to add photos of races, roads, bikes, equipment, or whatever you like. Don't add copyrighted material unless you have permission from the author.

Note, if you upload your own photo here, you are doing so under the Creative Commons license scheme.

Guidelines for Posting Photos

Often when you upload a photo from a digital camera, the site will warn you that it's too big. Feel free to check the "ignore warnings" box when uploading the photo. If the photo is still too big, you'll need to edit it on your computer before uploading.

When you include the photo in an article, please use a scaled down version. It looks better, and it saves bandwidth. For example:

  • [[Image:MyPic.jpg|left|thumb|256px|This is my picture]].

The image will serve as a hyperlink to the full size version of the image.
