The finale of the 2007 edition of Ghent Wevelgem played out with text book precision. Roger Hammond (T-mobile) had been off the front for most of the race in a small breakaway group. Marcus Burghardt (T-mobile),Oscar Freire (Rabobank) and Francisco Ventoso (Saunier Duval) bridged up to the lead group during the final 20 km of the race. Hammond and Burghardt's tactics neutralized the world class sprinting abilities of Ventoso and Freire by attacking at 1 kilometer to go.
